Coming from geographically diverse locations, the PBS management team brings with it a wide network of contacts including thought leaders and decision makers in large pharmaceutical companies, healthcare management, and research institutions. H. Jeff Leighton, Ph.D., Managing Director, BioDesignDr. Leighton has over 25 years’ experience as a leading scientist and top executive in pharmaceutical companies of all sizes. Dr. Leighton started his industrial career in 1976 as a Senior Scientist in Burroughs Wellcome. He subsequently became the director of Pharmacology at Glaxo, Group Chairman for Cardio Vascular Disease, Glaxo Inc.’s Vice President of Pharmacology, and Group Chairman of Metabolic Diseases. During this period, Dr. Leighton managed large projects involving hundreds of people and hundreds of millions of dollars. After leaving Glaxo in 1992, Dr. Leighton founded, managed, and directed multiple biotechnology companies including Genesis Pharmaceuticals Inc. (the first organic combinatorial synthesis company,) ICAgen Inc. (ion channel therapeutics,) Inspire (development based chronic lung disease company,) AdepoGenix, SemaCo, and more. In 1997, Dr. Leighton founded and headed BioDesign, a Boston-based group of R&D, clinical, regulatory, and market experts working to design and implement integrated strategies for emerging pharmaceutical technologies. Dr. Leighton acquired years of experience in consulting and advising young biotechnology firms at every stage of their development, from seed to IPO and beyond. He established a wide network of contacts including thought leaders and decision makers in large pharmaceutical companies, healthcare management, and academic institutions. Dr. Leighton holds a B.S. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Virginia. Dror Ben-Asher Interim Chief Executive OfficerMr. Ben-Asher is a co-founder of ProSeed Capital Holdings CVA. Since early 1999, he has served as the President and CEO of the company, leading the company through 3 rounds of financing, the assembling of an international management and support team, the pending acquisition of a Boston-based broker/deal, the creation of PBS, and more. Since 1999, Mr. Ben-Asher has held overall responsibility for a portfolio of over 30 early and later-stage investments in Europe (including Israel) and the United States, approximately 40% of which are healthcare-related. He was a 1999-2000 Olin Fellow for Law, Economics, and Business and an Economics Teaching Fellow at the Harvard Economics Department. Mr. Ben-Asher received his LL.B with distinction (First Class Honours) from the University of Leicester, England. As an Oxford scholar, Mr. Ben-Asher received a Masters degree from Oxford University (1997), specializing in European business law. He later concluded his LL.M. studies as a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Law School (1998). Mr. Ben-Asher has been studying the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries in Europe and the US for the last 5 years. He recently submitted his doctoral thesis at Harvard, concentrating on the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries, industrial organization, and antitrust issues. Ronald H. Goldenson, MD, Senior Project ManagerDr. Goldenson has been a practicing physician and consultant for over 25 years. After his undergraduate years at Princeton University, he attended Harvard Medical School and then did his post-graduate training in Medicine at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Boston, where he was an Intern and a Resident. After two years as an Epidemiologist in the Public Health Service, he went into the practice of Internal Medicine at South Shore Hospital near Boston. All through his career, Dr. Goldenson worked in medical design and has been a consultant to several medical companies interested in the application of technology to common medical problems. Dr. Goldenson has been a consultant to emedguides.com in Princeton, New Jersey, a company that publishes carefully selected inventories of specialized Websites for various medical specialties. In 1999, Dr. Goldenson joined ProSeed Capital Holdings CVA as a medical analyst and was instrumental in establishing valuable joint ventures and initiating clinical studies for companies in the ProSeed portfolio. Hubert Tytgat, MD, Senior Project Manager, EuropeDr. Tytgat has been a practicing plastic surgeon and consultant for over 16 years at St-Michaels (Brussels) and Middelares (Antwerp) hospitals. He trained as a plastic surgeon at the universities of Leuven (KUL), Antwerp (UIA), Belgium and Cologne, Germany and had additional training in microsurgery at the Microsurgical Research Unit (San-Francisco). In addition, Dr. Tytgat has been a consultant for Janssen Pharma (Belgium), a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, on wound healing and development of medical devices for surgical application. Dr. Tytgat was instrumental in starting up several companies, including Atlantic Engineering (Industrial Food Processing machines manufacturing,) Bizz Bees (Business Angel Club) and Articulate Online Benelux (High tech Startup fund), having held managing. Dr. Rani Oren, MD, Senior Project Manager IsraelSince 1999, Dr. Oren serves as the Head of the Liver Unit at the Gastroenterology Center, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and is a Professor at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. Dr. Oren received his M.D. from the Hadassah Medical School of Medicine, Jerusalem (1983). He specialized in Internal Medicine (1990) and Gastroenterology (1995). He received post-doctoral training and obtained fellowships in various fields including Pathology, Liver and Gastroenterology, and was a Research Fellow at the Liver Research Center of the Einstein College of Medicine, NY (1996-98). Dr. Oren also has extensive academic experience in institutions such as the Hebrew University Medical School, the Weitzmann Institute of Science, and the Tel-Aviv University Medical School where is currently serves as a Professor. His clinical experience is extensive including Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Hadassah and Sourasky hospitals. He served as an Associate at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY, Division of Liver Disease (1997-98) and he is heading the Liver Unit of the Gastroenterology Center of Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical. Dr. Oren has received a number of professional and academic awards including the Dean’s Award of the Hadassah Medical School, from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and from the United States Israel Bi-national Science Foundation (BSF). He is a member of several professional societies including the International Liver Transplantation Society (US), the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the Israel Association for the Study of the Liver, and more. Dr. Oren is also a reviewer of the New England Journal of Medicine and a member of the Organizing Committee of the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Dr. Oren has joined ProSeed Biotech Services as a Senior Consultant in the summer of 2001. |
