University of Phoenix Alumni Network Launches Full Service Personalized Portal for Alumni and Supporters Now University of Phoenix Students and Alumni Can Start Every Day Online with Their Own University of Phoenix Community
Phoenix, AZ (January 16, 2001) - The University of Phoenix Alumni Network unveiled its very own home on the Web at www.phoenixalumni.org, developed to give students and alumni an easy way to stay in touch with the university, while conducting their daily online activities. The University of Phoenix Alumni Network worked with MyPersonal.com Inc., the leading provider of branded online solutions and technologies for shared interest groups, to create their branded StartPage. The University of Phoenix StartPage is designed to add convenience to the lives of alumni, providing them content and features that serve both their daily need for news and their interests. According to Carrie Fries, director of the Alumni Network at the University of Phoenix, the need for community and the ability to deliver specialized information and services, such as career information, were driving forces behind the creation of www.phoenixalumni.org. "While our alumni may not be actively looking for jobs, they do like to keep up with developments in their fields," said Fries. "We needed to reach out to students and alumni at all of our campuses. Plus, we wanted to address the needs of the electronic learning students - whose numbers are doubling daily - and students using the Web for application, registration, tuition payments and library research." The majority of University of Phoenix alumni are in the 35 to 55 age range and have professional jobs. Many corporations utilize the courses offered by the University of Phoenix to provide employees an opportunity to conduct ongoing studies in their fields. The University of Phoenix is a for-profit educational institution with 85,000 alumni, over 100 campuses and one virtual campus for online learning. "The StartPage is designed to add simplicity to the lives of our students and alumni by providing them everything they are looking for online in one convenient location," said Fries, "The University of Phoenix community also gives alumni a reason to visit the University daily, making it easy for them to stay up-to-date on university news, learn of new campuses and continue their education. If alumni use our StartPage while they are at work, we can reach their colleagues, who may be potential students, about educating them on our mission to enhance adult learning, both online and at campuses." The patent-pending technology with which MyPersonal built the StartPage enabled the University of Phoenix to customize the portal, from graphics to content, so that it is consistent with the university's brand and addresses the specific needs of alumni. The University of Phoenix StartPage combines the university's information and services with premium online features, such as national and international news, Web-based vanity e-mail, customizable stock quotes, weather and much more, making it relevant and attractive to alumni, members and supporters of the university. "We believe that users prefer to go to a portal that caters to their specific needs in an environment to which they already feel a connection," said Douglas Fish, CEO and president of MyPersonal. "The StartPage opens up new lines of communication between the University and its students and alumni, which serves to strengthen the loyalty they feel towards the university."
